If you’ve been to our store, you’ve noticed all our vacuums are out on display. This is because we want you to try them out before you decide which to buy. Here are a few reasons why:
Vacuums are Subjective.
At the end of the day, picking out a vacuum is a subjective thing. Sure, we can compare prices, motor power and attachments, but none of these things matter if you don’t like a machine. A vacuum has to be comfortable to use and work with your lifestyle.
Machine Weight
Weight is the biggest hurdle we face at the shop. Let’s face it, an $800 vacuum doesn’t do any good if you can’t move it. If you only keep one vacuum and have to vacuum different levels in your house, a heavy vacuum will cause a lot of issues.
Sure, you can read some statistics online about the weight of a machine, but most people can’t get a good idea of what 13 pounds feels like or how it is distributed on a machine. Testing a machine out gives you the opportunity to feel how a machine carries. Certain machines carry oddly due to motor placement – it’s important to make sure the machine you want isn’t awkward!
Noise
Some people don’t mind noisy machines, if they check all other boxes. However, you may have a dog or small child – noise definitely makes a difference in these situations! Besides loudness, pitch can vary from machine to machine. Some have a high-pitched motor, and others have a deeper sound. You may not think these things make an impact, but I can promise you that you’ll notice a large difference in noise and sound if you try out a few different makes (and models)!
Ease of Use
I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve gotten tangled in a few machines. Depending on your needs, you may prefer a vacuum that has one switch – to turn on the machine. Perhaps you want to have more attachments and options for vacuuming. Some machines are more user-friendly and intuitive than others. If you want to vacuum the ceiling, but it takes seven steps to get there, you may reconsider vacuuming altogether!
Everyone Has Different Needs
The first thing any of us will ask you when you walk in is “what type of flooring are you vacuuming?”. Before we even consider showing you a vacuum, we need to know what you’re vacuuming. We aren’t going to immediately go over to the most expensive machine and try to sell it to you – we don’t make commission on machines, anyway! Once we’ve narrowed down your needs, we can get a good idea of what kind of machine would work best. The rest of the story is all about what you like best.
Here’s a few things you want to consider before getting a vacuum:
- Do you have pets? Do they shed, and how rough is the fur?
- Does anyone in your family have long hair?
- Does anyone in your family have allergies or sensitivities?
- Do you have mostly carpet, bare floors, or a mix?
- How delicate are your throw rugs (oriental, shag, bur-bur)?
- Do you have any high-pile or plush/soft carpeting?
- Do you want attachments to vacuum furniture, curtains, baseboards, etc?
Finally. . .
As you can tell, we’re pretty adamant about trying machines before buying them. We’re arriving on holiday season, which means people are looking to treat themselves with a new vacuum – or they break beyond repair right before a big gathering! All the reasons above are why we do not list vacuums online or suggest any over the phone. We want to take the time to get to know you and your vacuuming needs – nobody likes buying the wrong thing.
We’re confident we can fit your vacuuming needs at a price lower than a big-box store or online. In addition, we can give you tips and tricks that you won’t get anywhere else. If you’d like, we can assemble your machine for you before you take it home.
If you have questions, stop by or give us a ring!
